Calendars and Year Plan

I just wanted to mention that I have uploaded calendars for November through January, as well as an estimated Year Plan.  They are very basic so far and only outline how we are going to approach earning the petals and following the Daisy Flower Garden Journey.  We will also update these as we develop more activities for our troop.  All of the files can be found on the right sidebar of the blog (below the calendar picture).

All of this is subject to revision, as we need to see what works well for the troop!  And part of the Girl Scout experience is that the girls get to help lead their troop and be a part of decisions made.  So, we will be able to get a clearer vision of where to go with the troop once we start meeting...

Oct. 20 email to parents

Email sent out on Oct. 20th: (to help out parents who may join us late)

Hi parents!
I'm sorry it has taken so long to send this out, it has been a busy week with sick kids and also trying to get registrations ironed out (our school troop organizer Sally has been working like mad to get all troops for the school up and running).

I would like to plan a Meet & Greet/Pizza party for Friday November 4th at 6:00 (a little early so that the kids don't eat too late).  During that time, I will hold a quick parents meeting to go over a few things to get our troop started.  Details on the location will be coming soon.

Regular meetings will start on November 18th.  This day works well because the every-other-week rotation skips nicely around holidays and school breaks.  Still working on the location.

Because we will be having a mix of kindergarteners and 1st graders, I have planned to go through all of the petals by the end of the year (as well as the Daisy flower garden journey patches).  Even with the late start, we have plenty of time!  And for those girls who have already earned some petals, we will find something else for those girls to earn on those weeks (maybe a helping badge by working with the younger/newer kids?).

If your daughter was in Daisies last year, you are probably aware that the books have all changed for this year.  So the stories and activities should be new and exciting to them!  All of the petals now follow specific flower characters and each comes with her own story.  We will start with Lupe (a Lupine flower, the light blue petal at the top), teaching girls to be honest and fair.

So far, my troop management system is showing that one girl (name is in email) has registered.  Has anyone else registered?  If so, please let me know so that I can make sure you are linked to our troop.

Please let me know if you have any questions!  And please bear with me as I get everything ready! :)

New Daisies are being "planted" in our group!

It was great to meet parents and girls last night at the information/sign-up session!  So sorry for the chaos with the computers.  And the confusion about the start time.  At the parent meeting we can discuss options for the start time...I may be able to start as early as 6pm, but we will see what works for everyone!

I know not everyone was able to make it last night, so we will surely have more girls join us over the next few weeks!  So far we have five Daisies in our group!

**IMPORTANT **  Parents, once you have your girls registered with the girl scouts and have paid your $12 registration fee, please remember to send me an email to let me know, so that I can have Council add you to our troop!  Email: wendygroszki@aol.com

PARENT MEETING:  I will also send out an email about all of this once a few more things are worked out, but we are setting a tentative date of Friday Sept. 28th (maybe 6pm so that we have time to eat before the quick meeting).  We are thinking of making it a meet & greet pizza party so that everyone can start to get to know each other!  Details coming soon...

FIRST MEETING:  We are going to aim to have our first meeting with the girls on November 4th (and every other Friday after).  We don't want to wait much longer, otherwise we start hitting holiday season!  Starting on that date works well with the holidays and breaks throughout the school year.

UPDATE:  Because the end of October is always such a busy time for families with different Halloween activities, I think it will be best to move the Parent's Meeting/meet & greet to November 4th.  I know we are getting started pretty late in the year, but no worries - we have plenty of time! :)  I will be getting an email out soon, I have gotten backed up from having sick kids the past few weeks...

Welcome to Daisy Troop 6158!

Hi!  Welcome to our troop website!

I am trying to compile all important information so that we can find it quickly and in one place as I try to get our new troop up and running, so for right now it is a work in progress... I will be adding things as I learn of new resources or information.

Please be patient with me as I learn everything Girl Scouts...there is a LOT to learn in building a new troop as well as leading a Daisy troop!

To start, I have added a page, "New to Our Troop?" that outlines what parents can do to start their daughter in our troop, including registration and forms that need to be filled out.   You can find this page by clicking on the tab at the top of the page.

We will have a parent info night soon (date/time TBD) to go over many administrative things regarding starting our new troop.  In the meantime, I will need the girls to get registered with the Girl Scouts and assigned to our troop (see the New to Our Troop page for more details).

I am excited, it will be a fun year! :)
